Do games like Wordle help your brain?

Daily puzzle games give your mind a small, enjoyable workout, much like a crossword or a walk does for other habits. They are not medicine, and nobody can promise they make you smarter. Their real gift is a calm, regular pause that you look forward to.

What does a daily puzzle actually exercise?

Most daily puzzles ask you to reason with constraints. You guess, check, and adjust. That loop is a gentle form of problem solving.

A word puzzle leans on vocabulary and pattern. A logic or tile puzzle leans on spatial thinking. Both ask you to keep several possibilities in your head at once.

None of this is a guarantee of anything beyond the puzzle itself. Enjoy the thinking for what it is.

Can puzzle games make me smarter?

Be wary of anyone who says so with certainty. Getting better at a puzzle mostly makes you better at that kind of puzzle. Skills do not always carry over to other parts of life.

What you can say honestly is smaller. Puzzles give your mind something engaging to do. They can replace a few minutes of idle scrolling with something more absorbing.

If you have concerns about memory or focus, a doctor is the right person to ask.

What makes a daily puzzle good for you?

The best daily puzzle is the one you will actually return to. Pressure works against that. A clock, a lives system or a pop-up ad turns a pause into a chore.

How does Terrazzo compare as a daily habit?

Terrazzo is a daily mosaic puzzle for iPhone and iPad. Everyone gets the same puzzle each day, so you can compare notes with friends. You fit coloured stones into a frame so the day's Laws hold.

When every Law holds, the colours settle into a picture of something real, with a short story. There is no timer, no ads and no account. Most days take a quiet sitting rather than a rush.

The Laws are short to learn:

Is it free, and what if I get stuck?

The daily puzzle is free to play. TERRAZZO+ adds the archive of past mosaics, Stillwater and Solve DNA, and it is free for everyone for now. Past days in the archive open with keys you earn by solving the daily puzzle.

Getting stuck is part of the exercise, and help is optional. Every day has three hints. A nudge arrives at 00:00 UTC, the Laws in plain words at 08:00 UTC, and the answer at 16:00 UTC.

The leaderboard counts unaided solves only. That means no hints, no salvages and no seat marks. If you would rather not compete, you can ignore it.

How do I build the habit?

Pick a regular moment and attach the puzzle to it. Morning coffee and the last quiet minutes before bed both work well. Keep the bar low: one puzzle, then done.

If you miss a day, simply carry on tomorrow. A calm habit forgives gaps.
