What makes a good logic puzzle app?
A good logic puzzle app gives you clear rules and one answer you can reach by thinking. It never needs luck, a timer or a guess.
- Rules you can say aloud. If you can explain the rule in a sentence, you can reason with it.
- One answer you can reach. Each step should follow from the last.
- Room to think. No countdown, no pop-ups, no pressure to hurry.
Terrazzo is a daily logic puzzle for iPhone and iPad built around those ideas. The daily puzzle is free.
What is a logic puzzle, exactly?
A logic puzzle states a few rules and asks you to find the arrangement that obeys all of them. You work it out by ruling things in and out. You do not guess and hope.
Number grids, picture grids and tiling puzzles all belong to this family. They differ in what you place and which rules apply. The thinking is much the same in each.
How does Terrazzo work as a logic puzzle?
You fit coloured stones into a frame. The day's Laws tell you what the finished mosaic must satisfy. When every Law holds, the colours settle into a picture of something real, with a short story.
There are three Laws.
- Kinship. Same-coloured stones that touch form a region, and the regions must match the sizes shown on the frame's edge.
- Solitude. No two sun cells may touch, not even corner to corner.
- The Vein. The vein cells must form one unbroken path between the frame's two notches, with no branches and no loops.
Each Law is short, and each can be checked by eye. Most days combine more than one, and that is where the fun of deduction begins. The full rules are in how to play Terrazzo.
How do I approach a logic puzzle like this?
Start with the most restrictive rule and place that piece first. Then let the other rules narrow what is left.
In Terrazzo, that is often the biggest Kinship region or the path of the Vein. A big region fits in few places, so it settles the board early. There is a longer method in Kinship strategy for big regions.
Check your work against each Law one at a time. If a Law fails, lift only the last few stones, not the whole board. Small corrections teach you more than a fresh start.
Is it free, and are there ads?
The daily puzzle is free to play, and there are no ads, no timers and no account. TERRAZZO+ holds the archive of past mosaics, Stillwater and Solve DNA. It is free for everyone for now.
Past days in the archive open with keys earned by solving the daily puzzle. The leaderboard counts unaided solves only. That means no hints, no salvages and no seat marks.
What if I get stuck?
Being stuck is part of any logic puzzle. Step away for a while, and the gap often shows itself on your return.
When you want a nudge, the daily hints come in three stages. A nudge arrives at 00:00 UTC, the Laws in plain words at 08:00 UTC, and the answer at 16:00 UTC. Take the first and leave the rest.
