What is a good puzzle game to play before bed?
A good bedtime puzzle has no timer, no ads and a clear ending. It gives your mind one small task, then lets you stop. Terrazzo, a daily mosaic for iPhone and iPad, is built that way.
- One puzzle, then done. There is no next level pulling you back in.
- No clock and no ads. Nothing flashes, counts down or asks for attention.
- A quiet reward. The colours settle into a picture of something real, with a short story.
Why do some puzzle games keep me awake?
Pressure keeps you awake more than difficulty does. A countdown, a lost streak or an endless chain of levels all invite one more try. That is the opposite of winding down.
Bright screens and sudden sounds add to it. Ads are the worst offender, because they arrive without warning. If a game can startle you, it is a poor choice for the last minutes of the day.
What should I look for in a bedtime puzzle game?
Check the listing before you download. A few minutes now saves restless nights later.
- No timer or move limit. You should be able to pause mid-thought.
- A natural stopping point. The game should end, not loop.
- No interruptions. Look for "no ads" in the description and read recent reviews.
Our guide to puzzle games with no ads covers these checks in more detail. For a wider look at the genre, see relaxing puzzle games for iPhone.
Is a daily puzzle better than an endless one at night?
For sleep, usually yes. A daily puzzle is one sitting with a beginning and an end. When it is solved, the game has nothing more to offer, and you can put the phone down.
The same puzzle goes to everyone that day. There is nothing to catch up on, so skipping an evening costs you nothing.
How could I use Terrazzo as a bedtime routine?
You fit coloured stones into a frame so the day's Laws hold. Most days use one or two of three Laws.
- Kinship. Touching stones of one colour form a region, and the frame lists the sizes those regions must have.
- Solitude. No two sun cells may touch, not even corner to corner.
- The Vein. The vein cells form one unbroken path between the frame's two notches.
Try this: dim the screen, solve the day's mosaic, read its short story, and stop. The daily puzzle is free to play. There is no timer, no ad and no account.

What if the puzzle is too hard to settle down with?
Leave it, or ask for a nudge. Every day has three hints, released on a schedule. A small nudge arrives at 00:00 UTC.
The Laws in plain words follow at 08:00 UTC. The answer comes at 16:00 UTC. Reading one is your choice, and nobody grades you for it.
The leaderboard counts unaided solves only: no hints, no salvages and no seat marks. If a quiet evening matters more than a ranking, ignore it.
What about past puzzles on a slow night?
TERRAZZO+ holds the archive of past mosaics, Stillwater and Solve DNA. It is free for everyone for now. Past days in the archive open with keys you earn by solving the daily puzzle.
That means a hard night can end in one finished picture, and a calm night can end with a second.
Does a puzzle really help me wind down?
For many people it does, though it varies. A gentle task with a clear goal can quiet a busy head. It works best when it is short and has no consequences.
Try it for a week and notice how you feel. If it helps, keep it. If not, nothing is lost.
