Is there a tile puzzle game I can play online?
Terrazzo is a tile puzzle you play in an app, not in a browser. It runs on iPhone and iPad only, and the daily puzzle is free. You can read each day's hints on the website before you play.
- One puzzle a day. Everyone gets the same mosaic, so there is nothing to scroll through.
- No timer, no ads, no account. You open the app and the board is there.
- A real ending. When the Laws hold, the colours settle into a picture, with a short story.
What does "online" usually mean for a tile puzzle?
People type this phrase for a few different reasons. Some want a game in a browser tab, with nothing to install. Others want a puzzle everyone shares, or one that works on a phone.
Terrazzo fits the last two. It is shared, because the same mosaic goes to everyone each day. It is not a browser game, so it will not suit a work-computer tab.
What kind of tile puzzle is Terrazzo?
You fit coloured stones into a frame until the day's Laws hold. Nothing is cleared or matched away. The finished mosaic stays on the board.
There are three Laws, and most days use one or two.
- Kinship. Touching stones of one colour form a region. The frame's edge lists the sizes those regions must have.
- Solitude. No two sun cells may touch, not even corner to corner.
- The Vein. The vein cells must form one unbroken path between the frame's two notches, with no branches and no loops.
If you want the full walk-through, read How to play Terrazzo.
How is it different from a matching game?
A matching game asks you to pair tiles and clear them. The board empties, and the game ends when it is clear or you run out of moves. Terrazzo asks you to build, not clear.
Each stone you place has to agree with the Laws around it. That makes it closer to a logic puzzle than a reflex game. For a broader comparison, see tile matching puzzle games.
Can I get help without leaving the web?
Yes. Each day there are three public hints on the hints page.
1. A nudge at 00:00 UTC. 2. The Laws in plain words at 08:00 UTC. 3. The answer at 16:00 UTC.
Read as much or as little as you like. The leaderboard counts unaided solves only, meaning no hints, no salvages and no seat marks. Hints cost you nothing beyond that.
Is it free?
The daily puzzle is free to play. TERRAZZO+ adds the archive of past mosaics, Stillwater and Solve DNA. It is free for everyone for now.
Past days in the archive open with keys earned by solving the daily puzzle. So a missed day is never lost. You can come back to it once you have earned the key.
Who is it for?
It suits someone who likes a quiet, finite puzzle on a phone or tablet. If you enjoy logic puzzles and want a small daily habit, it is a good match. If you want a browser game or an endless stream of levels, it is not.
