What are daily puzzle games?

A daily puzzle game gives you one puzzle a day, and everyone gets the same one. When you finish, you stop and come back tomorrow.

Why do people like a daily puzzle?

A daily puzzle is small enough to fit into a morning or an evening. You know how long it will take before you begin. Nothing pulls you into a second round.

It also gives the day a quiet landmark. Many people attach it to a habit, such as coffee or the last few minutes before bed. The puzzle becomes a pause rather than a chore.

What should I look for in a daily puzzle game?

Start with how it treats your time. A good daily game respects the stopping point and does not invent reasons to keep you tapping.

Then look at how it feels. A few things are worth checking:

1. Does it ask for a timer or a streak you must protect? 2. Can you miss a day without feeling punished? 3. Is the puzzle solvable by thinking, not by luck? 4. Does the app interrupt you with adverts?

What is Terrazzo?

Terrazzo is a daily mosaic puzzle for iPhone and iPad. You fit coloured stones into a frame so that the day's Laws hold. When you finish, the colours settle into a picture of something real, with a short story.

There are three Laws. Kinship sets the size of each same-coloured region. Solitude keeps the sun cells from touching, even at a corner. The Vein asks for one unbroken path between the frame's two notches.

You can learn all of it in a minute with how to play Terrazzo. The Laws are the only rules there are.

Is it calm, or is it a race?

It is calm. There is no timer, no account and no advert. You can put the puzzle down and pick it up later in the day.

The daily puzzle is free to play. Past mosaics sit in an archive, which opens with keys you earn by solving the daily puzzle. TERRAZZO+, which holds the archive, Stillwater and Solve DNA, is free for everyone for now.

What if I get stuck?

Being stuck is part of the pleasure, but you do not have to stay there. Each day has three hints on the hints page. A nudge arrives at 00:00 UTC, the Laws in plain words at 08:00 UTC, and the answer at 16:00 UTC.

The leaderboard counts unaided solves only. That means no hints, no salvages and no seat marks. If you want your name there, keep the hints for another day.

If you are working on bigger regions, this Kinship strategy is a good place to begin.

How does it compare with other daily games?

Daily games share a rhythm, and that rhythm is the appeal. Word games, number games and logic games all offer one small challenge a day. Terrazzo does the same with colour and shape, so it suits people who like to think in pictures more than in words.
